Travel Tales

My husband Bob, my daughter Danielle and I had taken a Mediterranean cruise in July, 1998. One of our stops was Cannes and we had an interesting experience.

While my husband went to rent a car, Danielle and I decided to do a little shopping. I found a cute shop and found just the right T-shirt to buy. I knew I didn't have any cash with me so I asked the owner if he took credit cards and he answered yes. Then I realized my husband had my credit cards.

When we returned later that afternoon we realized that France was playing Italy in the World Cup Soccer Championships. As we walked around, we could see that all the shops, restaurants and bars were tuned into the game. We went back to the same T-shirt shop and this time the owner has his TV turned to the game and his face glued to the screen! With T-shirt and credit card in hand, I told him I was ready to buy the shirt. He abruptly turned to me and barked "Cash only"! Well, I wasn't about to argue with that, so... cash it was!

It was on our trip to Cannes that I decided that I would take French lessons when I returned home. The two years of French that I had taken in high school weren't very helpful. That's what led me to Savoir Faire. I took lessons all last year and we went to Paris last July.

I was very happy that I did so. I was able to get us to and from our destinations in a cab, buy tickets, order food and ask for the bills in restaurants and or course, my favorite,... shop... all with skills I learned in class. It helped make our trip to Paris wonderful...we had a memorable vacation.

So, thank you Savoir Faire and also a special thank you to Youssef, my excellent teacher. He always makes class interesting and fun but most of all helps me to learn French!
