Question of the Month
Is my 3 year old too young to start to learn a second language?
NO! Three years old is the perfect time for children to begin a second language.
Babies learn language simply by listening to their parents for a year. Young
children can pick up a second language just as easily through games, songs,
stories and play. A young child learns through experiences.
The brain actually grows new connections to accommodate these experiences,
so exposure to a new language as a toddler makes that second language easier
to acquire than for older children or adults. When children wait until high
school to start studying a foreign language, the job is much harder. Their
brains are now "hard wired"; the learning windows for developing
any complex cognitive system, including language, have closed. So, by all
means begin your child's second language acquisition now!
